Here it is: our latest version of shaper RC23 is
adapted for tying on at staples 46mm. As you have certainly noticed this
shape is very gradually conical and gives less resistance in general. Wooden
part of 26mm on a staple 47mm (total length of the finished reed 73mm) will
produce tighter resistance which we are trying to avoid. We are looking for
very freer vibration and easiness throughout the whole oboe register;
therefore we have improved the acoustic by lengthening the wooded part to
27mm (or very close) and diminished the resistance of the metal staple of
46mm. This helps to balance better the two registers of the low and 2nd
octave.
